DPP orders police to stop Chakwera rally

Lazarous Chakwera saw his supporters stopped from meeting him on his arrival.

The opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has claimed that the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ordered Police officers to stop its supporters from meeting their leader Lazarus Chakwera at Kamuzu International Airport.

Chakwera who was in Portugal, was stopped from meeting his party loyalists at the airport on Monday.

Party members were also blocked from the first checking point at the airport such that they could not catch a glimpse of their leader.

About 30 officers who were not in uniform but used police cars were seen at the airport trying to scare away MCP members.

Chakwera has since expressed concern over the decision to block him from meeting his party followers.

Meanwhile, the DPP are yet to comment on the matter.

Next time when peter mutharika goes abroad his party followers shud not be alowed to welcome him at the airport, only govt officials shud be allowed to do so.
