World Vision International says the droughts happening in Southern African countries including Malawi will continue with increasing regularity.
World Vision’s Resilience and Livelihood Director for Southern Africa Beatrice Mwangi says trends are showing that the droughts which were happening every five years will now be coming every three to five years.
“We are in a crisis all right, that is true, but it’s going to be the new norm. So our responses need to appreciate there is climate change and it’s going to affect the people that we work with, the communities we serve.
“Our responses also need to focus on the short term, the medium term, but the long term as well,” Mwangi told The Guardian.
According to the United Nations, Southern Africa is having its worst drought in 35 years.
The dry spell – a symptom of the global El Nino weather pattern – has reduced the prospect of bumper grain harvest in in the region including in Malawi where already close to 3 million Malawians are in need of food aid.
Member of Parliament (MP) for Dedza East Juliana Lunguzi believes the country has failed to counter effects of the drought even though the impacts of El Niño are predictable.
She said: “We knew that we were going to have an El Niño in Malawi. I’m thinking, OK what you are telling me, it’s exactly what you told me last year.
“You’re supposed to prepare, but when you look on what we have done as a country you will see that mainly we are facing these problems because of our lack of proper investment in the agriculture sector and also accountability, especially in the transition of the various loans that we have taken, and because of laxity within the system.”

God is angry we have messed enough! What we need is to bow down and ask for forgivenes and follow Jesus in real because under the cloud nothing is secret as the eye of God watches everywhere.
Mmmm, Moris, let me revive your memories about the hunger situation in 2000-2001/ 2002. Apart from the drought, we were pointing fingers at Dr Muluzi because previously, Malawi had bumper yields of maize such that with the drought in the years you have mentioned, people would still survive but Muluzi had sold all the maize from our Grain Reserves to boost his political rally campaigns. Those years Aleke Banda was the minister of agriculture through whom govt had introduced starter pack program hence malawians had bumper harvests. I was one of the beneficiaries. you needed to see how much I enjoyed my harvests that time. We were made to believe the blue lies from govt that it was an advice from IMF to sell the maize not knowing that Malawi was going to face drought. If you can remember, kasungu, T/A Chaima area was the worst than the rest in kasungu plus other areas like salima etc. I was one of the team which was hired to carry out a survey ON HEALTH & SANITATION plus FOOD SECURITY in such areas by a certain NGO called TECS. However, as if the hunger situation was not enough, Dr Muluzi took advantage to tour the whole Malawi during political campaigns with fake trucks packed with maize saying; ” my govt will not leave you to die of hunger, no way!”. Could you still see the trucks at the end of the rally? That was the reason why fingers were pointing at him otherwise not everything went bad during his time. He contributed his part to the hunger situation as a leader but at the same time, he was good in other areas of life. Finally, we should not forget and be carried away with these false prophets because we are in the last days. These things must happen to fulfill the bible prophecy. God save Malawi.

Look at that fool. He says DPP. What is World Vision saying? Is it saying DPP is the cause of such droughts is southern Africa? The fact is that climate change has come and biting hard on southern Africa. Anyway, you think with the mushrooming of these conn prophets in the whole southern Africa, God is smiling? In Malawi alone, how many? They are now teaming up in the land of fools and the blind of RSA who are so myopic to believe in miracles. Kkkkkkkk ! Miracle money, miracle babies, cars, marriages etc. Woe to RSA for the devil is building his headquarters there!
