Generations of Malawian beauty queens have lost a mentor who helped shape their journeys after Miss Malawi founder Carver Bhima died.
The Miss Malawi Organisation has confirmed Bhima’s death, describing him as a mentor, guide and custodian of Malawi’s beauty pageant industry.
“His contribution to Malawi pageantry cannot be measured simply by crowns, titles or stages, but by the generations of women whose lives were changed because he dared to dream and create,” reads part of the statement.
Bhima was closely associated with the Miss Malawi brand for decades and played a major role in developing the pageant and mentoring successive titleholders.
He was also involved in promoting beauty pageantry beyond Miss Malawi.
Former Miss Malawi Jessica Mponda, who served from 2022 to 2025, mourned Bhima in a Facebook post, remembering the personal interest he took in her life and future.
“You were so proud of me. You told me to call you, to keep you updated on my life on this side. You wanted to know how I would do, what I would become, where life would take me,” Mponda wrote.
Bhima’s influence on Miss Malawi dates back years, with the pageant reaching greater prominence under his management and helping Malawi’s representatives gain international exposure.
His death leaves behind a pageantry industry in which many former queens and contestants credit him with guidance and support.
