UTM presidential candidate Saulos Klaus Chilima on Friday performed press-ups during a rally to show his supporters the source of his strength.
Chilima stormed Mzuzu as he did a last push for votes ahead of Tuesday’s presidential elections.
Towards the end of the rally at Mzuzu Upper Stadium, Chilima did 14 press-ups to show supporters where he got the strength to campaign in many areas across the country.
In his speech, Chilima said 21 May will be UTM day as the party is confident of emerging victorious in the elections less than a year after its formation.
“What we have achieved is something that has never happened in this country; and, we must be proud of it. May 21 will forever be remembered as UTM Day. Let’s go and vote for change and let the polling day be a day of sacrifice,” said Chilima.
He then reiterated his promises to create one million jobs, introduce duty free week and remove tax on airtime, water and electricity.
The UTM leader also pledged to construct Mzuzu Airport and Mombera University in Mzimba and to deal with issues such as unemployment, poor housing and lack of medical drugs.
He said: “I have been to many parts of the country, so I know the problems and what we need to do. I will not be cheated by Cabinet Ministers about the situation. I urge you all that after May 21, let’s work harder so that we rebuild the country together.”
