Information Communication Technology Association of Malawi (ICTAM) hosted an Innovation Forum at Nkopola Lodge where the association awarded innovators who came up with the best innovations.
The event which was attended by Malawi’s Vice President Saulos Chilima, saw more than eight innovators being awarded, with Melvin Kalipinde scooping the best award at the event which will see him representing Malawi at Commonwealth Innovations awards in Rwanda next year.
And speaking to the media, ICTAM President Wisely Phiri said he was very happy with how the event was organized.
“We really did well this time around in terms of patronage, the innovations that came in and we had companies who really supported us more than our expectations. We are also very excited with how the judges handled the procedure of selecting the winners and we are very optimistic that the winner who has been selected to represent Malawi will do well since his innovation is very good,” he said.
More than 56 innovations applied for the forum before the panel of judges shortlisted 16 to compete for the highest award.
Apart from Kalipinde, Alfred Andrew Kankuzi and Dumisani Kaliyati were also awarded for innovating Peza and Sunga.
Peza is a location based mobile digital marketing platform for informal sector which connects low technical skilled people to potential clients as one way of reducing unemployment while Sunga is a financial up which makes village banking digital.
