Mozambican authorities have deported 88 Malawian nationals for using uncharted routes and improper traveling documents.

Confirming the development was Mwanza border public relations officer, Pasqually Zulu who said these Malawians were arrested in Tete Province in the wee hours of Wednesday and deported to Malawi on Thursday.

It is said that these Malawians were heading to South Africa where they were to work.

According to Zulu, the Malawians are from Machinga, Mangochi and Balaka. Eight of them are women while one is a minor.

Zulu further said verification is underway to confirm if they are indeed Malawian nationals.

He said the people who were aiding the Malawians have been detained in Mozambique on human trafficking charges.

This comes a day after police at Mwanza border post intercepted 54 Malawian nationals who were travelling to South Africa.
