Bushiri’s church leader in Chikhwawa attacked

People around Dyeratu area in Malawi’s Shire Valley district of Chikhwawa have destroyed property belonging to Prophet Shepherd Bushiri’s Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church’s home cell leader.

ECG home cell leader in the area Charles Makhaza is reported to be in hiding after people stormed his home around at 2 a.m. some days ago and destroyed his house.

Chikhwawa police officer in charge Davie Chingwalu confirmed to have received a complaint from the ECG home cell leader on the attack.

Bushiri faces an uproar.

Chingwalu added that investigations on the matter are underway to find people behind the attack of ECG member in the district.

Meanwhile, ECG through its communication director Ephraim Nyondo has expressed worry over the incident arguing it reflects that freedom of worship is being violated in Malawi.

This comes days after Paramount Chief Lundu in the Shire Valley said he will block ECG church in his area arguing it is for “satanists”.

Lundu also accused founder of ECG Prophet Shepherd Bushiri of having political ambitions in Malawi.
