He then assured people in the region that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government will never insult the North and will continue appreciating people from the region.

Mutharika however attacked the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) saying it was in power for 31 years but did not develop the Northern Region.

On the project, Mutharika said water is life that is why he saw it wise to launch the project as clean water enhances good health of people.

Mutharika said his administration want to make sure that no woman in the country should travel long distances to access potable water.

He added that his government will continue to develop the north and will make sure that electricity is everywhere.

Speaking at the launch, Minister of Agriculture and Water Development Joseph Mwanamvekha said government is taking issues of water and sanitation seriously.

“My ministry will continue working with Water board with an aim to improve water availability in the country,” said Mwanamvekha.
