Malawi Congress Party Vice President Richard Msowoya was among some top party leaders who did not attend the welcoming ceremony of Sidik Mia at Ngabu in Chikhwawa district.

Mia today formalised his membership of the Malawi Congress Party after weeks of speculation which aligned him with the country’s biggest opposition party.

Thousands came out to witness the return of Mia into Frontline politics at an event which was also spiced by musician Lucius Banda who is sympathetic to the cause of MCP.

KChakwera & MiaIt has been alleged that Mia’s joining of the MCP has been met with opposition from some party stalwarts including suspended spokesperson Jessie Kabwila and current party Vice President Richard Msowoya who is also the speaker.

The two politicians were also not available at the ceremony which is arguably biggest MCP gathering in the Southern region in recent years.

Also missing was party General Secretary Gustav Kaliwo who has been lobbying the party to hold a convention.

It was Deputy SG Eisenhower Mkaka who welcomed Mia into the MCP fold.

I will take over the Vice Presidency of the party

In his remarks, Sidik Mia rubbished reports that he was in MCP for the position of Vice President so as to partner with Chakwera in the 2019 polls.

However he quickly added that if anyone was to be sleeping on his job then he would grab it from them.

Quarters have interpreted his remarks as a sign that he is really eyeing the seat of Richard Msowoya.
