The Limbe first grade magistrate court has sentenced a 35-year-old man to eight years imprisonment for raping his neighbour’s daughter aged 16.

The court heard that the convict, Paul Kazembe, has been sexually abusing the girl since 2015 when she was aged 14 and in May this year the girl started showing signs of pregnancy.

Parents of the victim reported the matter to Limbe police and the rapist was arrested within the month of May.

He pleaded guilty in court and asked the presiding magistrate Her Worship Bakili to exercise lenience when passing judgement because he is a first offender.

However, state prosecutor inspector Chavinda told the magistrate that the offence is a serious one and he requested for a stiff punishment.

But the presiding magistrate slapped the convict with an eight year sentence.

Kazembe hails from Kaumbwe village, Traditional Authority Kawinga in Machinga district.
