Police in Zomba district say they have registered a 5.5 percent decrease in crime this year compared to last year 2015.
Senior Assistance Commissioner Hastings Manthaki said this has been possible due to the good relationship with the district’s community members.
“We have managed to minimise crime by 5.5 percent compared to last year. This was possible due community members who were tipping police on any occurrence incident,” he said.
According to Manthanki, this festive season the security providers have put in place several measures to make sure that they continue reducing crime in the district.
He said three vehicles are available to assist police during the operation.
However, Manthaki expressed concern over the increase of road accidents and other road incidents this year.
According to him, statistics have shown that road traffic cases have increased by 7.4 percent over the past year.
Manthaki finally asked members of the district’s community to keep on informing police on several incidents.
