A driver has died after his vehicle crashed in Dowa district on Sunday.
The driver was travelling from Salima to Lilongwe when one of the vehicle’s tyres burst leading to the crash.
The driver Isaya Kalonga died at the scene of the accident. According to Dowa Police Public Relations Officer Richard Kaponda, Kalonga was travelling in a motor vehicle registration number ZA 529, Horse with trailer ZA 1799 and the vehicle had a passenger on board.
“Upon arrival at Mpangweni village as he was descending a slope, one rear tyre burst and as a result the motor vehicle started swerving before it overturned and rested on the nearside verge,” said Kaponda.
The driver died on the spot while the passenger Newton Banda suffered minor injuries and was taken to Kamuzu Central Hospital.
Meanwhile the dead body is at Kamuzu Central Hospital pending postmortem.
The deceased hailed from Manyenje village, Traditional Authority Kalonga in Salima district.
