The Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) has lamented over government’s delay to pay teachers their November salaries.

General Secretary for TUM Dennis Kalekeni said there is a need for government to always give reasons for its failure to pay the teachers in time.

Dennis-Kalekeni
Kalekeni: We are worried.

“It is the duty of government to make sure that they communicate to teachers on the delay of their salaries,” said Kalekeni.

He added that the delay is very disappointing as all the teachers in the country have not received their salaries.

According to Kalekeni, TUM has received unofficial information that government is trying to put in place reforms that are in the pipeline as part of the decentralization process hence the delay.

But he claimed that as TUM they are making follow ups to make sure that teachers in the country should receive their November pay.

However, some quarters have argued that government always delays to pay teachers when Parliamentary sessions are being held.

  2. Every other development project in Malawi is always funded by the doner community including cashgate money. Every now and then we here these MRA officials boasting about collecting more than they targetted for in revenues….yet the teachers and many other civil servants are always complaining about late payments of their salaries. Where do the money in taxes go, and what do you do with it? If you are just political idiots who do not have ideas as to how to run a country then you need to step down all of you immidiately. You have failed the Malawians enough and we can not afford to lose more with your intellectual bankruptcy

  7. They should inform us three or four weeks before rather than wainting for salary delay then lamenting it is annoying and absurd.

  8. First u were stupid to accept 15% a mockery increment.Reorganise yourselves and go to the street for 40%.The president is not a solution as he rightly said.

  9. I don’t think it was only teachers coz its almost the whole civil service. And the same TUM told us the teachers that we should be patient because govt was trying to decentralising the pay roll system so some technical problems had caused the delay however, it was following the issue with keen interest. So why is the same body today lamenting for the delay of November salaries for teachers?

  10. Which union? If TUM has really lamented over salary delay then the union and its leadership must be STUPID coz it’s the same union that was on MBC Tv justifying the salary delay yet the ministry has a spokesperson.Nonsense!!
