A MK15 million bridge that has been constructed across Malindi River which lies between Traditional Authorities Ngabu and Malemia in Nsanje district will be commissioned on December 18.
Disclosing this to Malawi24 on Thursday, Member of Parliament for the area Joseph Chidanti Malunga said the bridge which has been constructed under Constituency Development Fund (CDF) has eased transportation problems the two areas had been facing for years.
“I was really touched to see that there was communication gap between the areas, more especially during the rainy season. Most children from T/A Malemia were unable to cross the river to access education at Khulubvi primary school in T/A Ngabu’s area, a situation that forced me to construct the bridge,” explained Chidanti.
The Nsanje South West Legislator has however blamed previous Members of Parliament for the area for failing to construct the bridge at Malindi River which had been putting people’s lives at risk.
“I wonder that the problem has been there for years and yet there were people who could act but they did not,” said Malunga.
He further disclosed that he will continue implementing different projects in his constituency as per his manifesto stated before he became a Member of Parliament for the area.
“I will make sure that all the projects I promised the people during the campaign period of 2014 are done. After this project I will also open the clinic at Nkotamu village in GVH Mbeta which is about to complete before I construct a school block at Nyamadzere Model primary school,” promised the lawmaker.
Meanwhile, Nsanje South West constituency has been ranked second in terms of implementation of development projects using the K18 million CDF funds after Francis Kasaila’s Nsanje Central.
