A 6 year-old boy has died after drowning in Lake Malawi at Njalamchiuno in Nkhotakota district.
Nkhotakota Police Public Relations Officer Williams Kaponda has identified the boy as Sydney Kaipa.
According to Kaponda, on Sunday the deceased together with his two friends were swimming in the lake at Njalamchiuno area.
“While there, Sydney drowned and his friends called for help but when the rescuers came the victim was already dead,” said Kaponda.
Postmortem conducted at Nkhotakota district hospital revealed that Sydney died due to suffocation.
He hailed from Njalamchiuno village in the area of Sub-Traditional Authority Makuta in Nkhotakota district.
