Court denies MCP convention application

The Lilongwe high court h as rebuffed an application made by  pressure group in the opposition Malawi Congress Party- MCP for the party to hold  convention amid incessant rows with the current leadership.

The court argues that since there are already offices bearers, it does not hold water that there be convention.

Through lawyer the grouping applied to add applicants to the case.

But high court judge senior deputy registrar Justus  Kishindo said  it was not in dispute that  the 27 district chairpersons led by Lackson Khalamatha filed using their posts applying to be added to the case.

The court also ruled that through the 24 September polls, the applicants never held their positions.

The grouping demanded an emergency convention in protest against various positions held within the party’s National Executive Committee –NEC.

Lately, there have been infighting in the party owing to leadership woes with the Lazarous Chakwera.
