A woman has died after falling from the back of a moving pickup truck in Mangochi district.
The accident occurred on Tuesday around 5pm at Sauya along Golomoti-Monkey bay road.
According to Mangochi Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Amina Tepani Daudi, the Hyundai Pickup with the registration number FH92YKGP and which was being driven by Francisco Goliati, 26, was coming from the direction of Golomoti heading to Monkey Bay with nineteen passengers on board.
When they reached Sauya, the driver lost control of the motor vehicle due to overspeeding and the pickup left the road. In the process, three passengers fell from the moving vehicle.
The woman, who is yet to be identified, was one of the three passengers. She sustained severe head injuries and she later died while receiving treatment at Monkey Bay Health Centre.
The two other passengers suffered internal injuries and open fractures and they are still receiving treatment.
Following the accident, the driver ran away but was arrested a few hours later and he will appear in court to answer the case of causing death by reckless driving contrary to section 126(4c) of Road Traffic Act.
The driver comes from Kalonga village, Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi
