A 34 year-old man has been arrested in Dedza district for being found in possession of medical drugs without licence.
Confirming the arrest, Dedza police deputy publicist constable Cassim Manda identified the suspect as Ronald Chauya of Mtiyala village in the area of Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi.
According to Manda, the police erected an ad hoc along Masasa-Monkeybay road. In the process of searching vehicles, they found the suspect with a Chinese bag loaded with assorted medical drugs.
The drugs included 9,000 tablets of Chrophenical Capsules, 10,000 tablets of Amoxicillin Capsules, 9,000 tablets of Paracetamol, 180 bottles of Gentamycin for injection, 100 Gentamycin tubes of eye/ear drops and 50 bottles of Dexathamasone Sodium Phosphate.
“We are still interviewing him to tell the actual person who gave him the medical drugs, I hope at long last we will have more arrests on the matter,” said Manda.
Meanwhile the suspect is in police custody waiting to answer the charge of illegal possession of medical drugs contrary to section 35 as read with section 65 of Pharmacy, Medicines and Poison Act of 1988.
