Amid increasing attacks on albinos, police in Blantyre have been forced to register all people with albinism in the city.

The development has emerged as a way of curbing increasing cases of brutal killings and abduction of people with albinism in the country.

Senior assistant commissioner of police Ellobium Banda said Blantyre district has commenced registrations of people living with albinism and their relations in order to easily monitor them.

“This registration will enable us to work together with communities easily and keep track on the daily activities of people living with albinism,” Banda explained.

Banda said registering these people will help the police to know the proper details of how many the society is having, their relations, and the school they attend for easy identification of any form of abuse.

Malawi is becoming unfriendly for people with albinism as there are some inhuman people who look for their body parts.

Recently, President Peter Mutharika warned the public to stop the inhuman malpractice of killing, abducting and exhuming the remains of people with albinism.

  3. That is an illicit idea dude,,,
    why registering them??
Are they new memberz to the country or what??
The thing is that u shud jst find a proper altenative on how to deal with the evil ppo not registering our fellowz as if they are a commodity…

  4. The exercise is good to some extent but as others have already argued,do we have to trust the police that they will custodily keep the records without any possible leakage? Some police officers play ‘double standards’.Otherwise, this can easily expose our dear brothers & sisters as the registration may include names and their locations hence making them to be easily traced. The police should discipline itself for the success of this exercise.

  5. Steven Katelele, your comment could be seen as you’re accomplice to the evil practice of hunting down albinos. I think your statement ” too bad why registering hidden treasure” is very irresponsible regarding the gravity of the plight of our albino brothers and sisters.

  6. The very same police will sell the list to the killers in exchange of cash…..somebody has just compiled a hit list for our brothers and sisters to be easily slaughtered, whoever passed this Bill was not in his right state of mind, besides how can you Label people as is u putting a mark on a goat….for God’s sake they are humans and their rights need to be respected.

  8. But that’s against the constitution of Malawi which doesn’t allow the discrimination of people according to the colour of their skin, counting the number of albinos as if u counting how many goats you have and how many cows you have, that is a violation of people’s rights,Albinos are people and that will put them even in more great danger, what if the register leaks into wrong hands, the would be murderers will know exactly were to go to find albinos because they will be having addresses……thank Malawi police for putting albinos in greater danger,I’m dissappointed in you..

    1. You don’t get it! These people needs a strong protection from the government and that is the only effective way of protecting them because they will know where these people are, by the way with your critics what have you done to protect them?

    3. #Vint that’s true koz for example they will kno that at Bangwe we hav 5 albinos, then in Chilimba we hav 9 of them so those details its easy to find them koz it is the same police officers who can communicate with those who kill them

    4. thank you Sunmat that’s my point exactly……the very same police will sell the register to the murderers, this idea is putting and exposing our brothers and sisters in even greater danger than before…..To whoever passed that Bill, thanks to you and your stupid idea, have made the job of killers very very easy and you ve delivered our brothers and sisters straight into the hands of ruthless killers to be slaughtered like dogs…some people pass stupid laws without using their brains…

    5. Thank u Mphande, just that I’m not sure how far we can trust the police with the current state of this nation? This government can’t be trusted anymore

    6. Are we sure we don’t know where our brothers and sisters with albinism live? Are you telling us that they live in hiding? I thought we live with them? I wonder where the word ‘leakage’ is getting in here

  12. apart from the recommendable jobs that you are doing to secure the lives of our fellow friends you need also to continue to intesify strong security in districts where these malpractises are happening eg, Machinga, Ntchisi….etc.Ithink the court also should provide stiff punishments to all those who are practising these barbaric life in this country.Mutha kumagwira anthu amchitidwewu koma ngati amakhoti sakuwapatsa chilango chokhwima adzipitilizabe.
