Admarc guard ‘accidentally’ shoots man

Malawi Police officers in Nsanje district have arrested a guard who works at Mbenje Admarc depot for manslaughter.

The guard, Anderson Katefa, 48, was reported to have shot in the air to disperse people who were fighting to buy the staple grain at the depot.

gunLater, Katefa put away his rifle without closing the safety catch that prevent bullets from coming out, leading to the shooting of community policing member Lyson Vincent 42, who was at the place.

Nsanje police have since confiscated the gun used by the suspect at the depot.

The suspect will appear in court to answer charges of manslaughter contrary to section 208 of Malawi’s penal code.

The deceased hailed from Mbenje Village, Traditional Authority (TA) Gabu in Nsanje district.

  66. Shame after successfully discharging his weapon to disperse the crowd while putting the rifle away he accidentally shots his comrade a community police officer,

    Accidentical killing of another not murder, not an act in duty, but a careless use of a firearm causing the death of another the right charge is manslaughter,

    Regretfully two families have and will suffer because of the careless storage of the firearm.
