The African Development Bank (AfDB) president Akinwumi Ayodeji Adesina is expected to jet in Malawi today through Kamuzu International Airport to have talks with President Peter Mutharika on the current economic woes.
Last Month, the AfDB sent nine directors to Malawi to assess Malawi’s economic situation.
The directors, observed that the country’s microeconomic challenges are fuelled by among others high interest rates, depreciation of the Kwacha, and high inflation.
Adding further, the directors said Malawi’s economy was at hem of sinking following devastating floods that hit the country early last year.
The team also unveiled a possibility for the bank to help in a number of sectors through providing policy direction for the country.
During the two day meeting the AfDB President is expected to have high a profile meeting with President Peter Mutharika to provide policy direction on agriculture.
Adensina, a former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development in Nigeria, became President of AfDB in 2015 to succeed Donald Kaberuka.
