Lecturers at Chancellor College in Zomba have organised a concert with the aim of sourcing funds for students who are struggling to pay fees.

The event has been scheduled to take place at Chancellor College’s Great hall on 9 April.

Faith Mussa will also perform at the concert.

One of the lecturers at the university Alinafe Mphande said the initiative arose because there are a lot of students at the college whose parents or guardians cannot afford to raise money for tuition fees as well as for upkeep allowances.

“The students are coming from families that cannot afford to pay K275,000 tuition fee for them, that’s why we have decided to hold this concert,” Mphande said.

According to Mphande, artists who will be available at the dance are Faith Mussa, Lawi (Frank Phiri), Sam Simakweli, Malala and students.

Over 30 students at Chancellor College are hopeless and have no idea how they will manage to source funds for tuition so as to achieve their dreams of becoming Chanco graduates.

This follows a decision by Higher Education Students Loan and Grants Board to only give loans to a few university students.

The board has since set out to collect K1.7 billion from former university of Malawi and Mzuni students as one way of sourcing funds.
