Police in the southern region have issued a warning to all residents that once they are caught stealing green maize they will face the music.
Issuing the massage, the region’s police spokesperson James Kadadzera said police in the region are working tirelessly with the aim of ending the malpractice.

Kadadzera said there are reports of increased theft of green maize in the region which he said is a worrisome behaviour considering the current hunger situation countrywide. “It is reported that there is increased cases of maize theft. And we want to assure all people that our men are working tireless and be assured that if caught, all the suspects will be brought to book.
“We are also urging farm owners and community police to be alert and report to police anyone who is being suspected to be a thief or caught stealing maize,” said Kadadzera.
The publicist further added that they will bring to book anyone who will be caught stealing maize to ensure that the country is food secured.
The development comes barely days after Blantyre residents particularly in Mbayani Township asked for the city’s intervention on the increase of green maize business in the city.
According to some people who got interviewed by this publication, the business could also contribute to the hunger situation in the country.
However, responding to the request, the Blantyre city council through its spokesperson Anthony Kasunda assured that the council is doing all it can to enforce the ban on green maize.
