MBS destroys a truckload of Win bottled beer

The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has confiscated and destroyed 620 cartons of Win spirituous liquor because the alcohol was packed in plastic bottles.

The liquor which was packed in plastic bottles of 5litres is manufactured by Quality Industries Limited in Lilongwe and has been disposed of because the Mandatory Malawi Standard number 210 on spirits specifies that all spirituous liquor products must be packed in glass bottles only.

PoliceMBS has destroyed the liquor in conjunction with the Malawi Police Service and the Dedza District Assembly.

“The Malawi Bureau of Standards in conjunction with the Malawi Police, has confiscated 620 cartons of spirituous liquor packed in plastic bottles of 5litres each. The spirit liquor is being manufactured by Quality Industries Limited in Lilongwe.

“The spirit liquor has been confiscated and will be destroyed because it is against Mandatory Malawi Standard number 210, Spirits – Specifications which states that all spirituous liquor products must be packed in Glass bottles only. The spirits will be disposed of together with Dedza District Assembly at the Dedza disposal site on 24th March, 2016,” said the MBS in a Facebook post.

The bureau later posted pictures of their officials destroying the liquor in Dedza.
