Uladi Mussa’s sentiments that the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and the Peoples Pary (PP) which he is now heading could form a strong government and boot out the Peter Mutharika regime were not just from his mind with latest information Malawi24 has showing the two are now having intentions to merge.

The two parties who have roped in the Alliance for Democracy (Aford) whose merging with the PP in 2014 did not yield anything as the former ruling stumbled in the elections believe that they have the power to win the elections in 2019.

Their close relationship lately has pelted from the two all standing to the ground against the Mutharika administration which they accuse of failing to rule Malawi.

A close source within the parties has confided in this reporter that there are plans to form one party and make strong opposition against Mutharika’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in the next polls.

” Yes. But the problem we have now is that some PP faction is against the feared merge. The plan is to make sure theres enough support for the parties in all regions and make it easy to win the next elections” said the source.

Evident to this has been joint rallies the two parties have held.

MCP’s Lazarous Chakwera has been with PP’s Kamlepo Kalua and Aford’s Enoch Chihana in the rallies where they have dressed the DPP regime down.

A rally in Lilongwe was successful but the one in Mzuzu on Sunday met setbacks with what is reported to be a DPP camp causing mayhem at the rally.

Some reports however suggest that it was a PP faction which was against the rally.

Initially, Uladi Mussa whose heading of the PP as an interim leader has met the rejection said that the two parties are strong enough to win the elections to come.

According to Mussa, the two parties have potential to bring the donor era back within a month if they were to rule the country.

“We can negotiate with donors to be supporting us and we proved that when Joyce Banda was President, she negotiated with donors and they came,” said Mussa.

He also outlined some of the things a PP-MCP alliance would do to coax donors.

“First we will make sure that the house is in order, we will clean the mess inside because these donors have demanded that the K92 billion cashgate under late Bingu wa Mutharika should be audited or else they will hold the aid if we will not meet these demands.

“PP and MCP have experienced leaders, I have been in the house for over twenty years and I know better how things are handled for the common goal of the country,” said Mussa.

Earlier this year PP Publicist Ken Msonda told Malawi24’s Joseph Dumbula that the working relationship between the two parties was not getting to the said merge.

Msonda argued that the PP was supporting the MCP in some of the ideas because they had them in common and that the MCP is the head of opposition in the parliament, casting doubts on the fears on the merge between the parties.
