Member of Parliament (MP) Joseph Njobvuyalema has been elected secretary general for African Parliamentary Network on SDGs.
Njobvuyalema was elected to the post at a conference on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which took place in Abuja in Nigeria, from 9 to 13 March, 2016.
The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) MP has taken up the post after the term of office for the previous office bearers expired.
Njobvuyalema has since promised to bring change on the continent in as far as SDGs are concerns.
“My resumption into the role as the SGDs of this Africa’s body is a plus not to Malawi only but to SADC as a regional block,” said Njobvuyalema.
The committee’s role will be to help in incorporating SDGs in all governance processes.
The newly elected secretary general says he will now work to establish parliamentary a committee on SDGs so that they are given much needed attention.
During the conference, Tijjani Jobe from Nigeria was elected president while Susan Nakawuki from Uganda was chosen to be vice president.
Senator Fortune Charumbira from Zimbabwe has been elected as second vice president while Boris Maelezo is treasure general.
