DrowningA 14 year-old boy has died after drowning in Chimwankhunda Dam in Blantyre where he went to swim with his friends.

Blantyre assistant Police spokesperson Andrew Mayawo confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Nathan Mvula, a Standard 7 learner at Mlambalala primary school.

“He was swimming with his friends at the dam and suddenly disappeared. After noticing, his cousin who was also together with them rushed home and reported the matter,” Mayawo said.

Mayawo explained that police together with members of the surrounding community launched a search for the 14 year-old only to find him dead.

A post-mortem at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital revealed that he died due to suffocation. Nathan hailed from Engalaweni village in the area of Inkosi ya Makosi M’mbelwa of Mzimba district.

This incident has occurred barely few days after a man drowned in Namatapa River in Bangwe.
