Limbe Police public relations officer Pedzisai Zembeneko identified the man as Anthony Muhammad and said he stole a sewing machine from a house in Manje.

Zembeneko said the suspect told the children of the house in Chemadi in Manje that he had been sent by their father to take a sewing machine.

The children however told the thief that the door was locked and he should not open it.

But Muhammad forced himself into the house and stole the sewing machine after threatening the children with a knife.

However, members of the community caught Muhammad after they heard the children crying for help. The residents wanted to lynch the suspect but police intervened and rescued the suspect.

Meanwhile, the suspect is being kept at Limbe Police Station waiting to appear in court to answer charges of house breaking and theft which are contrary to section 309 and 278 of the penal code.

Muhammad hails from Chemadi village in Traditional Authority Kapeni from Blantyre district.
