The 2016 Miss Balaka, Shazea Gentili says that she will change the bad image which the former office bearers of Miss Balaka had. She said this soon after being crowned as Miss Balaka on Thursday night at Zembani Lodge in the same district.

The Miss Balaka event was organized by We are the Youth of Balaka (WAYOB) and it attracted a lot of people because of the popular musicians like Saint and Andy music who performed live.

“I want to assure my fans and everyone that I will change the bad image which is there for Miss Balaka and will be unique. I will never involve myself into prostitution or any other malpractices rather I will join hands with the youth to contribute to the development of the district,” said Shazea Gentili.

Gentili also advised the youth that they should strive for education if they want to achieve in life because for one to work and have good businesses it requires education.

WAYOB also presented music awards to various musicians based in Balaka during the event. The music award for group of the year was given to Real Gangsters while the award for artist of the year was given to one Rob G.

According to the chairperson for WAYOB, Chikondi Limbani, their organisation took the initiative because they want to promote their fellow youth and want an energetic Miss Balaka.

“We don’t want an idle Miss Balaka but an active one who can contribute to the development in the district, so as NGO we will train and remind her of the roles she has. As youth we shouldn’t wait for other people or organisations to help us but we must have the spirit of empowering one another,” Limbani emphasized.

Limbani also urged the corporate world to join WAYOB in improving the annual Miss Balaka event because it is one of the events which unite the youth and it’s easier for them to share ideas and information.

WAYOB is a voluntary non-governmental organisation which was established by the youth of Balaka in 2012 as a Facebook group. It is now a well-recognized NGO by the government. It has a lot of objectives like promoting youth, planting trees and cleaning the town.
