Malawi Police detains suspected rapist in Mzimba

Malawi Police in Mzimba district have arrested 35 year-old Tinkhani Beza on charges of defiling an 11-year old girl.

Police publicist for the district, constable Kanjauso said the man forcefully took the girl to his house where he began forcing himself on her.

According to Kanjauso, the suspect promised to give the girl MK200 as a reward for kindly allowing him to ease his libido on her.

“An elder sister to the victim noticed him and quickly reported the issue to her mother who indeed found them inside the house. She reported to police who arrested the man,” said Kanjauso.

However, by that time the little girl was bleeding heavily in her private parts and a medical examination conducted at Mzimba district hospital confirmed she was indeed defiled.

Beza is currently in police custody waiting to be prosecuted on charges of defilement which is contrary to section 138 of the penal code.

The maximum penalty for the offence is life imprisonment.

The suspect, who is said to be a married man with two children, hails from Simeon Mvula village in the area of Inkosi Ya Makosi M’mbelwa V in Mzimba district.
