Silver Strikers have reduced the gap of points with Malawi super league log leaders Big Bullets to within 6 points after beating town rivals Civo United 2-1 at Civo stadium on Saturday.
Victor Limbani and Green Harawa scored for the bankers in the first half whereas Nelson Kangunje scored a consolation goal in the second half of the game.
The host Civo United were coming from a 1 all draw with Epac fc whereas their opponents were coming into this game from a disappointing 1 nil lose at the hands of Mafco fc last week.
Silver Strikers dominated the entire first half as they kept on pressurising Civo United for the entire first half.
Silver Strikers took the lead through Limbani and a few minutes later Harawa doubled Silver Strikers lead when he scored Silvers second to make it 2-0.
The first half ended 2-0 in favour of the central bankers.
Come the second half both Silver Strikers and Civo United come in with fresh ideas and they were in search for early goals in the opening minutes of the second half.
Civo Strikers coach Oscar Kaunda brought in Nelson Kangunje who was more effective for Civo and he score a beauty for Civo United to make it 2-1.
After that goal Civo kept on pressurizing Silver Strikers as they were still in search for their most important goal that could level the scoreline but Silver Strikers defenders defended jealously as they did not allow the Civo servants to score their second goal of the game.
Peter Wadabwa and Harawa also had a lot of chances to put the game beyond Civo’s reach but they wasted their chances and the game ended 2-1 in favour of the bankers.
The lose has moved Civo United to 9th on the log table whereas the win has moved Silver to position 2 on the table.
After the game Silver Strikers coach said he was delighted with the win, whereas his counterpart Oscar Kaunda conceded defeat but said that his team played well despite the lose.
