Outbursts by Malawi leader Peter Mutharika on his extravagant UN trip and related issues have not been welcomed well by social commentators in the country.

The President who addressed the press and the country today spat fire on the citizens of the country and media houses for having a vendetta against the DPP led government.

An angry Mutharika fired at all his critics who said that he had carried with him a village to the United Nations General Assembly in New York. It had been established that 115 visas had been granted to Malawians to escort Mutharika to the assembly with a bigger number being full of shoppers and tourists.

Mutharika however said that none on his team was a tourist despite reports that the list had party stalwarts who could not contribute anything to the proceedings of UN. Contradicting himself, later he said that it was nevertheless a small delegation that went with him to the UN.

The Malawi leader who has been known for his composure but today had lost it to respond to what he said was the ‘nonsense’ of Malawians started reading the people who went with him to the summit. He disclosed who funded some of the people. He was however caught in his own web of lies when he failed to name the organisations that sponsored some of the people preferring to just call them NGOs.

Reacting to the remarks by the Malawi leader, analysts have faulted him on the tone that he used to send his message home.

“He could have talked better,” said Malawi24 news analyst, William Simango.

The analyst faulted Mutharika for being militant and calling the issues ‘nonsense’ as well as ‘stupid’. Our analyst said that Mutharika was angry as a defense mechanism to cover up for his cluelessness.

“He knows that the country is failing and he is failing to steer it in the right direction, he thinks that by using strong language then he will threaten Malawians and his critics will be afraid of taking him to book,” said Simango.

A psychologist with a local University who did not wish to be named said that Mutharika had rehearsed for the presser.

“One could see that the President was deliberately being angry to intimidate Malawians and prove that he is in control, the whole speech was rehearsed and the aim of the President was to prove to the world that he is in control at a time when his power has been doubted,” she said.

Meanwhile Mutharika’s spokesperson Gerald Viola told the President that he should give a cold shoulder to Zodiak Broadcasting Corporation because it celebrated his brother’s death.

    public servants, saying they were “forced to
    borrow from Reserve Bank of Malawi.”
    The President said public servants should
    sacrifice to work for living wages, saying they
    can go to private sector if they want to be
