The Lilongwe Water Board has been granted approval for the implementation of various reforms in the operations of the board by Malawi President Peter Mutharika.
The approval entails that the water utility body will focus on the implementation of the said reforms in a bid to enhance efficiency of service delivery in order to better serve its customers.
‘’Among several benefits, if implemented some of these reforms in particular the Mobile Billing and the pre-paid water meters will help our customers to manage their water usage and bills while at the same time ensuring that they get maximum value from our services whilst the GIS and hydraulic model will facilitate rapid response to faults, whose benefits also include reduction of non-revenue water’’. Reads part of the statement.
Furth more, the introduction of water bottling to the market will make the available quality product to a different segment.
The approved reforms include developing a GIS and hydraulic model, develop a management information system, introduce mobile billing, fast-track the implementation of pre-paid water meters, diversify revenue through production of bottled water, introduce leak detection system and reduce non revenue water.
