This year`s edition of African Cup of Nations (AFCON) which will be staged in Egypt will attract the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology.
The technology was first used last year during the FIFA World Cup in Russia. It is a system which helps football officiating personnel in verifying some incidents in the game.
Meanwhile, a total of 24 referees are undergoing training in the technology. With a few months remaining before the tournament, it is believed the referees will master the system before the tournament.
The 2019 AFCON will see a total of 24 teams battling it out. This follows an alteration which was made to the competition`s set up.
Making matters more exciting, the forthcoming continental football phenomenon has a number of surprising packages. There are a couple of nations which need introduction in as far as AFCON is concerned. They are Mauritania, Burundi, Tanzania, Kenya, and Madagascar.
