Police in Mangochi district are keeping in custody 20 year-old Isaac Ayami for stealing various items from his employer.
According to Mangochi Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Sergeant Amina Tepani Daudi, the suspect was employed as a barber at Mr 500 barbershop which is located in Mangochi.
“Ayami was sleeping in the barbershop since the owner used to keep some properties in there,” Daudi said.
But one day the barbershop owner was surprised to discover that two speakers, DVD player, Samsung Galaxy S4 mini, assorted phone chargers and camera were missing.
At that time the suspect was not in the room.
“It was believed that the suspect stole all properties and went to his home village in Zomba district,” said Daudi.
Mangochi Police tipped Zomba Police who went to Ayami’s home village and arrested him.
The stolen items have since been recovered except one speaker which the suspect said he used as collateral when traveling to Zomba since he had no money.
Ayami will soon appear in court to answer the charge of Theft by Servant which is contrary to section 286 of penal code. He hails from Kuntaja village, Traditional Authority Chikowi in Zomba.
