Police in the Eastern Region have denied reports that they are playing a role in the killing and abduction of people with albinism.

Reacting to accusations which were made by traditional leaders in Machinga, the region’s community policing coordinator, senior superintendent Alfred Chimwaza said the police are not helping the criminals.

“I think the problem is that everyone thinks different from another, I suggest that there can be other officers with such ideas. People should know that we are not aiding albino’s abduction but we are against it,” said Chimwaza.

He added that the law enforcers are working tirelessly to make sure that people with albinism are enjoying their rights just like everyone.

Cases of people born with albinism being abducted and killed have increased in the eastern region especially in Machinga and other surrounding areas and this has prompted Eastern Region Police to conduct interface meetings with villagers in the district.
