Students from Chikhwaza Secondary School in Mulanje have stormed the Shire Highlands Education Division offices, demanding answers after a night of unrest at their school.
The students alleges that police officers descended on the school during the night, beating some of them and firing teargas as tensions over student leadership positions boiled over.
The confrontation forced some students to flee the school and spend the night at Khaya Primary School, according to student James Botomani.
Botomani told the local media that students abandoned the school after the alleged police action, leaving them with no option but to seek shelter at the nearby primary school.

“We ran away from the school and slept at Khaya Primary School,” Botomani said.
The students have now taken their grievances to the education authorities, where they are seeking an explanation over the events that forced them out of their school.
The unrest is reportedly linked to a disagreement between students and school authorities over leadership positions.
However, it remains unclear what specifically triggered the confrontation or why police were called to the school.
