People using Lake Malawi and other water bodies have been urged to exercise caution as strong Mwera winds are expected to persist, alongside thunderstorms and heavy rain across Malawi tonight and on Saturday.
The Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services says winds will be variable and gusty in stormy areas.
Windy conditions are also forecast along the lakeshore, where isolated thunderstorms and locally heavy rainfall are expected.
According to the Department, Some areas in the Shire Valley and Southern Highlands could receive heavy rain tonight and on Saturday morning, with localized downpours possible in the afternoon.
The Central Region is likely to see thunderstorms and locally heavy rain tonight and during the morning. In the Northern Region, outside lakeshore areas, strong winds, thunderstorms and heavy rain are also expected.
The department says the weather is being driven by the convergence of warm easterly winds and cool, moist southeasterly air masses.
However, Communities in flood-prone areas have been advised to remain alert.
