Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential torchbearer, President Peter Mutharika, has fulfilled his recent promise to allocate a vehicle to Dowa police station to ease transport challenges at the station.
Mutharika made the pledge during a whistle stop tour on Thursday in Dowa which took him to Nalunga, Dowa boma, Chilimbuli and Manthimba trading centres in the district.
President Mutharika announced that the vehicle would come to the station the following day amid ululations and handclapping by DPP followers.
Speaking when he received the vehicle at a function held at Dowa police station, Officer In Charge, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Charles Msitu thanked President Mutharika for the vehicle.
Dowa police station was in 2017 voted number one in the Central Region for reducing crime rate despite having one vehicle which was on and off the road.
Mutharika’s pledge was made after Senior Chief Msakambewa in his speech had pleaded with president Mutharika’s government to provide a vehicle to Dowa police station saying the vehicle the station was old.
Chief Msakambewa hailed police officers of Dowa for discharging their duties professionally making the communities in the district working hand in hand with it in matters of security.
He expressed hope that the new vehicle would provide solutions of serving all Community Policing Forums hence reaching out to all areas in time.
In his speech, President Mutharika asked the people of Dowa not to listen to the opposition parties saying they have no agenda for developing the country.
Mutharika urged the people of Dowa to trust him and the DPP for a second mandate of running the country to continue initiating development projects.
