Vice President Saulos has demanded the release of UTM Director of Youth Bon Kalindo saying he has done nothing wrong.
Chilima who is also UTM president made the remarks during a rally at Matenje School Ground in Salima.
He noted that DPP members have in the past committed crimes but they were not arrested because they belong to the ruling party.
“It’s unfortunate that I do not have a screen, I would have played you a clip where someone was insulting the President but was not arrested,” said Chilima.
The vice president then challenged that his party will not be intimidated by the arrests saying they will only make UTM stronger.
He added that if elected in this year’s presidential elections his government will end politically motivated arrests.
“Let me assure you that when we get in government we will arrest those with crimes, those who have stolen from you. Others did not have money in 2014 but are building mansions in lakeshore districts, we will turn those into hospitals after May this year,” said Chilima.
In his speech, Chilima also accused the Peter Mutharika administration of failing to protect persons with albinism.
Kalindo who is also Mulanje South MP was arrested Thursday in Lilongwe for insulting President Peter Mutharika and displaying disorderly conduct at Balaka Police Station.
He appeared in court in Zomba on Friday but the court failed to make a ruling on his bail application and the legislator is still in police custody.
Last week, police also arrested Chilima’s assistants Joshua Valera and Kush Unyolo for acting suspiciously at the Chiwanja cha A Yao ceremony at Liwonde.
Let them do what they want since it’s their time.
