The ministry of health has refuted reports that the cholera outbreak has reached Likoma Island.
The ministry through its spokesperson Joshua Malango has said no case of cholera has been registered in the district.
Malango added that the ministry is fully aware of the districts that have been affected by the disease and Likoma is not one of them.
“We have spoken to the district health officer and the answer still remains that there is no cholera outbreak reported on the island.
“The district health officer as well has said that there no person who has been found with cholera,” he explained.
Recently, media outlets indicated that two females aged 19 and 26 were found with cholera at St Peter’s Hospital in Likoma.
At least four people have died from the disease in Malawi since the start of the current rainy season.
Karonga district hospital in the Northern Region is one of the hospitals that have been highly affected by the disease since a lot cholera cases have been recorded in the district.
Other areas that have been affected by the pandemic include Lilongwe, Dowa and Mzuzu.
