Police in Mzuzu are keeping in custody a traditional doctor aged 25 for raping a 13-year-old girl.
The suspect has been identified as Charles Muwa.
Deputy public relations officer for Mzuzu Police Station Cecilia Mfune told Malawi24 that the girl left Ekwendeni on Saturday where she stays with her grandmother for her mother’s place at Chibavi Township.
While there, she went missing and on Sunday morning her mother informed members of the community.
“She was found later at the suspect’s house who is a traditional doctor within the area,” Mfune said.
The girl revealed that she slept at Muwa’s house where he sexually abused her.
The matter was reported to Luwinga Police Unit and medical test later proved that the girl was sexually assaulted.
Muwa who comes from Kulola Village, Traditional Authority Mkanda in Mulanje will appear before court soon to answer the charge of defilement in accordance with section 138 of the penal code.
