Super League preview: Nomads look to stretch lead

Week 12 of the 2017 Super League will see leaders Be Forward Wanderers playing host to struggling Chitipa United at Balaka Stadium on Saturday.

The Nomads were in the Central Region last week where they managed to collect 3 out of 6 points from their two outings.

Nomads face Chitipa United

A win over the rookies will put them five points ahead of second placed Moyale Barracks who will play Mzuni FC on Sunday at Mzuzu Stadium.

However, the league leaders are very much aware of how costly complacency can be sometimes as they survived Fish Eagles’ scare in a 2017 Carlsberg Cup round of 32 clash on Wednesday at Balaka Stadium.

The Nomads needed a Yamikani Chester penalty to seal a 6-5 victory over the rookies to progress to the round of 16 of the competition and that was enough to motivate Chitipa United that they can cause an upset against the leaders.

Nyasa Big Bullets and Dwangwa United are also set to go head-head with both clubs desperately needing a win.

The Blantyre based giants had a weekend to forget last week when they lost 2-1 to Silver Strikers at Civo Stadium.

With their bitter rivals running away with the title, a win is a must for Bullets if they are to keep their title ambitions alive.

Pressure is mounting on the 13 time Super League champions as they have dropped 15 points in their opening ten games and any mistake in the remaining games will see them dropping out of the race before the midway break.

However, Dwangwa United will not be just a walk over.

They lost to Premier Bet Wizards 1-nil last week and their position on the log table is not promising hence making Saturday’s clash very exciting.

In other Saturday matches, Mafco FC will play host to Silver Strikers at Chitowe Stadium while defending Super League champions Kamuzu Barracks will welcome Red Lions at Civo Stadium.

On Sunday, Wanderers will entertain 4th placed Blue Eagles at Balaka Stadium in what looks to be another entertaining clash between the two sides.

At Civo Stadium, Silver Strikers will welcome Red Lions while Moyale Barracks and Mzuni FC will face each other in the Mzuzu derby at Mzuzu Stadium in what looks to be the clash of the week.

The hosts are currently enjoying their form at the moment but they are yet to register a win over the Green Intellectuals in the past two seasons.

A win for Moyale Barracks will see them closing the gap on league leaders Nomads as the battle for supremacy has reached a boiling point.

At Chilomoni Stadium, struggling Blantyre United will play host to Premier Bet Wizards while Masters Security will entertain Chitipa United at Dedza Stadium.
