The first grade magistrate court in Blantyre has sentenced a 28 year-old man whole stole millions at gun point to nine years in prison.
The convict, Kingsley Jere, was arrested for stealing K2 million from Stanley Wasi on 14 July, 2014 at Chemusa Township in Blantyre.
State prosecutor Justice Manolo told the court that the convict together with two friends who are currently on the run, stole money from Wasi at gun point.
Manolo added that Jere deserved a stiff punishment arguing that the victim was hit with economic hardships as the money was not recovered from the convict.
In mitigation, the convict pleaded for lenient punishment arguing that he is HIV positive and he looks after a wife and children.
However, Senior Resident Magistrate Edina Bodole sentenced him to nine years with hard labour saying the city is recording many cases of armed robbery.
Jere comes from Thumba village, Traditional Authority (TA) Mzukuzuku in Mzimba district.
