Terrible! Malawian woman kills own child to sustain marriage

A 27 year-old woman in Mzuzu city has poisoned her eight month-old baby to death in a bid to please her husband who denied being the baby’s biological father, Malawi24 can confirm.

According to Martin Bwanali who is public relations officer for Mzuzu police, the suspect, Eluby Luhanga, got married to her husband, Masugzo Nyambose, in 2015.

She entered the wedlock while six months pregnant and said Nyambose was responsible.

Blood.The child was born eight months ago but the husband began claiming that the baby boy was not his son.

This was a constant source of conflict in the family.

“So to bring peace and of course to sustain the marriage, I just decided to eliminate the life of my son,” the woman told the police.

She did her evil deed on Sunday 17th July when she gave her child tomato insecticide to poison him.

When the woman’s relatives realised what she had done to the child, they rushed the baby to Ekwendeni mission hospital where he was admitted.

But the baby boy breathed his last in the wee hours of 18th July and a medical report indicates that death was due to poisoning.

When the matter was reported to Police Post, arrest was effected.

The suspect will appear in court to answer murder charge contrary to section 209 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile Police in the city have advised people to find amicable solutions to their family disagreements.

Said Bwanali: “Causing death of an innocent soul cannot solve problems rather will only add misery to already troubled families since the law do not smile at such evil minded people.”
