Teen rapes three year-old as man gets 12 years for rape

An eighteen-year-old boy is in Nkhotakota police custody after he was caught raping a three year-old girl on Tuesday in the district.

According to the victim’s mother, around noon on the day she went to the mosque and left the child with a relative. When she got back home she was surprised to hear the child crying from bathroom but the relative was not home.

“I rushed to the bathroom and found the suspect raping the kid. The suspect upon seeing me began to run away,” the mother told police.

The woman then called for help and some members of the community managed to apprehend the rapist and took him to Nkhotakota police station.

Nkhotakota Police Station spokesperson Williams Kaponda said the victim was rushed to Nkhotakota district hospital where a medical examination confirmed that she was indeed raped.

The wicked boy has since been charged with defilement and is expected to appear in court soon. He hails from Siyasiya village, Traditional Authority Khombedza in Salima district.

In a related development, the Kasungu first grade magistrate court has sentenced a 45 year-old man to 12 years in prison for raping a 10 year-old girl.

Kasungu police deputy public relations officer Harry Namwaza said the rapist, Samalani Banda, sexually abused the girl in May this year.

Namwaza said on the day of the rape, the victim was playing with friends at the evil man’s home and in the course of playing she excused herself to go to the bush to relieve herself.

The paedophile who was at home during this time saw the victim entering into the bush and followed her.

He then tied the victim and raped her. The girl later told her grandfather who immediately reported the matter to Kasungu police station.

In court, Banda pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement and he was sentenced to 12 years in jail.

The rapist comes from Tambala village, Traditional Authority Njombwa in Kasungu.
