If you are not yet in green today, you should be next week Thursday. If you want to adhere to what Gertrude Mutharika’s initiative, Beautify Malawi (BEAM) is preaching.

Beautify Malawi (Beam) has declared every Thursday as a green day and has told all Malawians to put on green clothes on this day in solidarity with efforts to conserve the environment.

This is according to the country’s first lady Getrude Mutharika who is also the founder of Beautify Malawi. On Wednesday, June 8, she led Malawians in cleaning Tsoka market marking climate change week.

The first lady said people need to be patriotic and emphasised that it is the role of each and every Malawian to conserve and take care of the environment in the country.

She then advised all people, especially those doing businesses along river banks, to restrain from dumping wastes into the rivers as that could be so harmful to people down the stream.

She further said it is good to consider the country’s environment with reason so as to reduce negative effects of climate change.

Thereafter, madame Mutharika declared every Thursday as a green day where all Malawians are advised to wear green clothes in solidarity with efforts to conserve the country’s environment.

The state President Peter Mutharika on Monday, June 6 joined Malawians in observing this year’s World Environment Day and launched the 2016 Climate Change Week and Ecosystem Based Adaptation for Food Security Assembly (EBAFOSA).
