Woman in custody for being found with chamba

A 60 year-old woman is in police custody for being found in possession of cannabis sativa locally known as chamba.

Limbe Police assistant deputy public relations officer Widson Nhlane confirmed the development and identified the suspect as Mayola Macheso.

Arrested.Nhlane said a CID officer from Limbe police was tipped off by well-wishers that the suspect was keeping the illicit drug in her house.

“On May 3 the police officer went there for a search and found a 25kg bag of the drug in her house and he arrested her on the spot,” Nhlane said.

According to the police spokesperson, the suspect is in police custody and she will appear in court soon to answer charges of being found in possession of cannabis sativa.

Macheso hails from Chiphwembe village in the area of Traditional Authority Malemia in Nsanje district.

Meanwhile, the Police have thanked the general public for informing the law enforcers about law breakers in their communities.
