The Faculty of Law at Chancellor College has introduced a disability rights module in order to promote rights of people with disability.
Ngeyi Kanyongolo, a Senior Lecture at the college, disclosed this during a consultative meeting on disability rights.
Kanyongolo said the module aims at making sure that law students at the college know disability rights and have the right attitude towards people with disability.
According to Kanyongolo, they want to respond to some of the challenges that people with disabilities are facing in the country.
“We want people with disabilities to live peacefully as any human being or individuals do because they too deserve better,” Kanyongolo said.
In his remarks, Federation of Disability Organisations in Malawi (FEDOMA) Head of Programs Symon Munde commended the college for the initiative.
According to Munde, he hopes the course will contribute a lot in changing attitudes of students towards rights of persons with disabilities.
