Police in Mangochi says a fisherman is missing after a boat he was in capsized on Lake Malawi in the district following the occurrence of Mwera winds.
The missing fisherman’s friends have identified the man as Thom from Makokola village in the district.
According to Thom’s friends who were with him in the boat, Thom failed to swim when their boat was sinking. Marine Superintendent Emmah Ngoti said a search will be a challenge as the Mwera winds are still blowing over the lake.
The missing fisherman’s friends are Arabu Usizi aged 21, Ibrahim Undi and Pakiti Usi 18 from Demba village. Ngoti has since asked fishermen to stop fishing when the Mwera winds are blowing over the lake.
